Early Lead South Dakota Cigar Store Indian maiden from the James Green Cigar Store and factory originally located on Main street, consigned by grandson Dan Green. Family history indicates Jim Green arrived in Lead, Dakota Territory by stage in 1882 workimaiden from the James Green Cigar Store and factory originally located on Main street, consigned by grandson Dan Green. Family history indicates Jim Green arrived in Lead, Dakota Territory by stage in 1882 working asminer and bullion guard for Homestake Mining Co. owned by George Hearst. In 1897 J. Green was appointed to Chief of Police serving 8 years and during this time purchased the cigar store from a B.V. Ardinger laterselling the business in 1902 or 1903 to Rodney E Hall as reported by early Lead Daily call newspaper. J. Green kept the maiden putting her in the family home at 506 Green St., two early shots show hi standing next to the carving in the yard at which time she was wearing original or period paint. At some point she was repainted, probably 19050's and lent for a short time to the Old Style bar in Deadwood (now Saloon No. 10). Copy ofphoto shoving patrons posing net to her looking fresh and shiny. Included with figure is copies of family photos on Green Street, various newspaper clippings, map location of store and written letter from grandson. A
