Dudson English Jasperware Jug
This late 19th-century English stoneware jug, produced by Dudson Brothers Ltd. of Hanley, Staffordshire, features a brown dry-bodied exterior with white sprigged relief decoration. The piece is decorated in the Tropical Bird pattern, depicting a bird perched on bamboo branches among aquatic foliage, reeds, and cattails in the Japonisme style common to the late Victorian period. The jug is designed with a tapering cylindrical body, a pinched pouring spout, and a rustic faux-bois handle modeled in the form of a gnarled tree branch. The underside of the jug bears incised numbers 1530. Provenance is established by a circular Rubin Collection label. Dimensions: 5.00"L x 4.00"W x 7.00"H
