A carbon copy on onion skin paper dated July 23 and addressed “To Whom It May Concern.” The letter certifies that Hazel B. Cottrell will be a member of the Disney delegation of approximately 15 persons who will be visiting South American countries for the purpose of making a field survey exploring the possibility of making animated cartoons. Signed by Roy O. Disney as Vice President of Walt Disney Productions. It is also accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity from Phil Sears Collectibles. Roy Oliver Disney (1983-1971) was, with his younger brother Walt, the co-founder of what is now The Walt Disney Company. Not to be confused with his son, Roy E. Disney, Roy O. was the financial chief of the Disney Studios for more than four decades and co-founder of the Disney Empire. While Walt was the creative man, Roy was the one who made certain the company was financially stable. Roy became the company’s first CEO in 1929, although the official title was not given until 1968. He also shared the role of Chairman of the Board with Walt from 1945. After Walt’s death in 1966, Roy postponed his retirement to oversee construction of what was then known as Disney World, and later renamed it Walt Disney World as a tribute to this brother. Roy became the president of Walt Disney Productions on December 15, 1966, and remained so until 1968. He passed away only months after dedicating Walt Disney World in 1971. -59249
