-Two-page, W.A. Burleigh autographed letter sent to Charles B. Wing of Yankton in the Dakota Territory. The letter is dated March 24, 1868 and is in regards to Burleigh’s foreman on what do about cattle and various other issues relating to his property. The letter was written on official Congress stationary and measures 10” x 7.75 when opened. The letter has some wear including small tears on the side. The letter’s original envelope also accompanies this lot, it measures 5.5" x 3.25. The envelope had some wear including small holes along the sides. Walter Atwood Burleigh was a name of many skills as he studied both medicine and law in his early years. At 41 years-old he found work as Indian agent in what is now known as Tripp County, South Dakota. He was elected as a Republican to the 39th and 40th Congress. In 1869, Burleigh returned to the Dakota Territory and became involved with state politics, agriculture and continued to practice law.
