-“The Black Hills A Minute Description of the Routes, Scenery, Soil, Climate, Timber, Gold, Geology, Zoology, Ect with An accurate map, four sectional drawings and ten plates from photographs taken on the spot.” A handwritten note on the first page suggest that is was once owned by a E.S. Whittaker of Rutland, Vermont on May 6th 1881. E.S. Whittaker is listed in the Rutland 1881-1882 directory as working for the police department as a “special police.” He is also listed in a report of Rutland as a member of the fire department, Engine No. 2. This was written by Richard Irving Dodge Lt. Colonel in the U.S. Army. Published in New York by James Miller, Publisher 647 Broadway. Dated 1876. 151 pages. The book has some wear including rough edges and pages, but overall it has kept well. The plates have maintained their color. The fold out pieces are still attached to the book, but a few tears are present.
