Measures 19 by 15.75” in a wood frame under glass. The photo card measures 13.5 by 10.” Number 3528. Titled “Last Deadwood Coach” commemorating the last trip of the famous stage on December 28, 1890. J. C. H. Grabill photographed in the west, mostly in the states of Wyoming, Colorado, and South Dakota from 1875-1981. Grabill is most noted for his photographs of the aftermath of the Battle of Wounded Knee in December of 1890. This photo was copyrighted in 1890 and 1891 [Ref: Mautz, 1997, 189]. The photo is in excellent condition, very clear and focused. The stage coach commemorated here is surrounded by a sea of men with only one or two women present so much so it can barely be seen. The men have on a variety of hats, carry different canes and display watch fobs. All have on at least shirts, vests, and suits, some with overcoats and gloves. Their footwear all seems to be scuffed but for being where they are, that seems to be a natural occurrance. To the left of the pole, there is a sign for the King Jewell Mine. To the far right, there are members of a band with their instruments. A mighty auspicious day in history.
