Ewers became interested in Plains Indians (specifically the Blackfoot tribe and its neighbors) while attending graduate school. He became Director of the National Museum of Technology and History and championed museums for numerous Native American tribes. This bulletin includes illustrations of techniques used by the Blackfoot tribe such as the method of wielding a lance by a mounted warrior.
