<B>DEEP PURPLE AMETHYST "PORTA JOIA"</B></I><BR> <I>Artigas, Artigas Department, Uruguay</B></I><BR>The finest amethyst geodes are said to come from Artigas, Uruguay. The color from this locality has a richer, almost black-purple hue that is very distinctive when compared to its Brazilian cousins. This natural crystal "jewel box" or "porta joia" is a fine amethyst geode filled with these deep purple-black crystals. The rims, on both the pot and the lid, have been finely polished and have the distinctive intensely colored banded agate associated with Uruguayan amethyst geodes.
