Crow Apsaalooke Beaded Moccasins c. 1890
The lot features a set of beaded, hard soled hide moccasins from the Crow Apsaalooke Native American Indians of Montana, dating to circa Pre-1890. The set features hard soled, parfleche rawhide bases and a sinew sewn, Indian tanned hide top with glass trade seed beadwork in a geometric, very traditional Crow pattern. The beadwork shows colors of Cheyenne pink, cobalt, and sky padre light blue. The set shows a bifurcated forked tongue of Indian tanned hide with a green and ocher coloring. The set shows a foot worn patina on the base and overall, nicely true use patina throughout, with some slight stiffening, bead loss, and separation. Overall, the set has a nice ocher dark coloring and both moccasins exhibit the original hide tie straps. Provenance: From a large American Indian collection in Billings, Montana. Each measures approximately 11.75”L by 2.25”W by 4 3/8”H.
