Sierra District (printed top center). Inc. May 21st, 1863. No. 93, issued for ten shares to GM Burnham on July 3rd, 1863 in San Francisco. Signed by president Henry L. Davis and secretary E. Field. Not cancelled. Very ornate border, black print on grey background. Small vignette of mine in the mountains. Printed by Drouaillet's Lithog., SF. 25 cent adhesive US IR stamp attached on the left. Pinholes, folds, small stains. 5.5 x 9.5" The Sacramento Daily Union, March 23rd, 1863, has a letter from Unionville that mentions the newly created Sierra District and the Croesus mine. A July 13, 1863 article includes another report from Unionville and mentions the Sierra District was formed because of the discovery of the Croesus gold-bearing ledge. Henry L. Davis is listed in the 1864 Langley SF directory as being the sheriff of the City and County of San Francisco. E.X. Field is listed as a mining secretary. GM Burnham is a lumber dealer.
