1877 - Original “Storey County Courthouse Bond” certificate, No. 24, issued on 7 March 1877 to Sutro & Co. or Bearer for $1000 in gold coin. Signed by J. P. McFarland, Clerk of Board of County Commissioners of Storey County, and John Randall, Chairman of Board of County Commissioners of Storey County. Punch cancelled. This bond measures 15.25” x 19” (untrimmed, 16.75” trimmed). In its ornate frame, this item measures 24” x 28”. Printer: Lith. Britton, Rey & Co. S. F. Features a central vignette of people and a carriage outside an impressive, colonial building. Included are 8 punch-cancelled coupons, numbered 10-3, for $50 (except for No. 10, which is for $68.61), all endorsed by Randall. The bond also bears a seal. Any markings on the reverse of the bond cannot be read unless the item is removed from its frame and tan/brown matting. Very good condition: crisp, clean, and creased from folding; the frame bears a small 1" gouge in the upper right. John P, McFarland was elected to his post on 7 November 1876, and John B. Randall was elected on 3 November 1874 but replaced after his death by L. T. Fox in 1878 [Ref: Thompson & West, History of Nevada, 1882, p. 606]. -61378
