Rare “Date Set” of Twenty-One Gallery Admission Cards For Congress Counting of the Vote for President and Vice-President
February to March 1877-Dated, Rare Set of 21 Official Printed U.S. Government Admission Cards or Tickets for the “Counting of the Vote for President and Vice-President,” to the “Gallery of the House of Representatives,” Crisp Extremely Fine.
These rare 3” x 4.75” Printed Admission Cards or Tickets have black printing on various colored stock, each has a serial number printed in red, blue or black ink. Minor, some with light soiling. These Cards / Tickets were for Admission to the Gallery of the House of Representatives, to witness the Counting of the Votes in the disputed 1876 election. Included in this lot is one rare orange, 3” x 4.75” “Electoral Commission. No. 130”, Admission Ticket. Also included is an original 3.25” x 5.25” Hand-Signed “S. L. Hoge” as “M.C.” a Member of Congress, Printed Envelope which reads, “House of Representatives,” likely used to leave the Admission Tickets for attending individuals. Finally, a June 1996 article from “The Political Bandwagon” entitled “The Stolen Election” by Harvey Goldberg. An important and rarely encountered collection that would be near impossible to locate all of these different dates. Specific Admission Ticket Dates are: February 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 12, 13, 14, 19, 21, 22, 23, 24, 26, 27, 28 & (2) March 2, 1877. A remarkable archive. (23 items)
