The lot features an unusual beaded war paint pouch from the Comanche Native American Indians from the plains of Texas. The bag, dating to circa 1880-1900’s, shows traces of old red powder pigment on the inside. The piece was made of tanned hide with colorful beadwork on the front using glass trade beads of such colors as sky padre blue, red and corn yellow. The piece shows the original drawstring still attached. Indians would carry powder mineral pigments and ochres used for face paint on the war trail in these small paint pouches. From the former collections of Ben Thompson and Tommy Haas. Measures 6” L x 2.25” W.
