Lot of 28 ore specimens representing the diverstiy of Au bearing tellurides mined within the Cripple Creek Mining District, Co. Discovered in 1890, this district remains one of the richest producing boomtowns of the American Gold Rush. Through 2005, the district has produced 23.5 Moz Au with mining ongoing from lower grade, bulk tonnage operations; however the samples in this lot are from the underground, high grade sheeted vein complex exploited earkly in the district. Samples include numerous examples of native gold amongst a number of the gold and silver bearing tellurides including calavarite, hessite, krennerite, petzite and sylvanite. A beautiful example of radial accicular sylvanite within a volcanic breccia matrix, native tellurium (uncommon), emmonsite ( a very rare hydrated iron tellurite) and samples of the roasted telluride ore add to the value of this suite of samples. Nice examples of crystaline fluorite, a common gangue product within these alklaine igneous complexes, are also present. Labeled collection locales include the Pikes Peak, Lexington, and La Belle Mines, in additon to samples from Clear Creek. Specimens range from ~ 1/4 to 2 inches in diameter.
