Leadville Mining District. This company owned 1/2 interest in The Denver City, Shamus O’Brian and Quadrilateral claims, covering 14 acres; the other half was owned by the Lee Basin Mining Co. Situated on Fryer Hill, California Mining Dist., about ¾ mile from Leadville. The property was located in 1878. The Denver City vein, a contact varying in width from 4 to 48 inches, contains chlorides, sulphurets, and lead carbonates (Cerrustte). When sorted from 30 to 150 oz./ton of silver. Developments included three shafts, one on each claim, 3I2’, 365’, and 315’ in depth, with considerable drifts, winzes, and other workings. The Denver City shaft exposed a large body of iron, rich in chlorides but nearly barren in silver [Ref: Corregan and Lingaine, Colorado Mining Directory, 1883]. No. 1279 Issued to F. Paxson & Co. by [illegible] Burnham as Secretary and J. Whitaker Wright as President on 15 January 1881. Signed on reverse by a representative of Paxson & Co. White paper with a black border, no vignette. Excellent condition.
