The humble beginnings of Lake City began in the late 19th century when the town sprung up to miners of the San Juan Mountains. For a while, the isolated town found success in the silver the ore rich area produced. At its peak in 1900, Lake City had a population of 5,000, 2 banks a stop along the Denver Rio Grande railroad and the first church and newspaper in Western Colorado. This stereoview provides a fantastic look at the early development of Lake City. The photograph was taken by T.E. Barnhouse of Lake City. The stereoview measures 7" x 4" and has low to medium contrast with a sharp focus. There is some wear including handwritten notes on the back. HKA#62289
