Russell Mining District, Willis Creek. The 3,000 foot Helmer Lode was located on Willis Creek along with 1,500 feet each of the Decatur, Herschel, and Paul Lodes. The company also owned a 5 acre mill site and 22 acres of gold placer. Corrigan and Lingane in the 1883 Colorado Mining Directory, identified the owner as Elbert Fitzgerald of Freeland, CO. The claim was situated in Cottonwood Gulch, Jackson Mining District, 3 and 1/2 miles from Idaho Springs which was located in January of 1882. Fissure vein 6 feet wide with a pay streak 2 feet wide of chalcocite, developed by a shaft 25 feet deep. No 2733 issued to Geo. D. Munroe on 21 March for 100 shares by Chas. W. Griffin, Secretary, and W. K. Marini, President. Countersigned by the Treasurer of the Mutual Trust Company on 23 March. Signed by Munroe and a witness on 21 March 1883. Yellowing around the edges. U/C. Good condition.
