-This is a great lot for the cartographer or geologist. 1) A double-matted and framed topographic map of Aspen in the upper portion of the frame, with an "Aspen Special Sheet" at the lower portion. The topo map shows streets, railways, and various geologic features of Aspen, while the special sheet shows two cross-sections of the topography, complete with identifications of various fault lines, and a complete 11-color legend. Gorgeous condition, vibrant colors, fine detail. The entire framed, ready-to-hang dimensions are 38" by 22". 2) A 21.5" x 19" black cloth hard bound volume with gilt lettering on front: "United States Geological Survey/ Charles D. Walcott, Director/ Atlas/ To Accompany/ Monograph XXXI/ On The/ Geology Of The Aspen District/ Colorado/ Josiah Edward Spurr". The covers are faded, scuffed, and worn through on many corners and edges. The first few pages appear to be missing, and a loose "Geology Sheet XII" is tucked into the front of the volume, with very tattered edges. The rest of the volume contains crisp and colorful images in good condition. A tattered page at the rear bears hand-drawn map data. A fine, interesting volume. 3) A second volume of the USGS atlas, but in fabulous near-pristine condition with no tattered pages apparent, and very high-condition along the edges, corners, and spine.
