No. 2827 issued to Palmer Coor Meo (sp?) for $1,000 by P. A. Morse, D.J. Tallunt, W. Hooper, John W. Geary, and R[illegible] Sands as commissioners. Over thirty vouchers/coupons included with this lot; however, they are no longer attached. The stock has been unevenly cropped on three sides. It has small tears and is delicate. Geary served as mayor of San Francisco in 1850 for one year, he later gave away some of his land (which became Union Square) and a street was named for him in S.F. By 1856 he was appointed Governor of Kansas, a state that had high antislavery views. He also participated in Civil War services as a colonel at the Battle of Cedar Mountain. In honor of Geary, "Davis County" in Kansas was eventually changed to Geary County in 1889.
