C. 1900 Eastern Plains Beaded & Fringed Hide Shirt
The lot features a tanned leather hide men’s shirt with beadwork from the early 1900’s Eastern Plains Indians. The shirt is comprised of tanned leather hide with a beaded bib attached on the front and hand cut integral hide fringes along the bottom edge as well as fringes on the shoulders, bib front and along the bottom edge of the arms and cuffs. The shirt shows some minor staining and other wide nice supple hide with little to no bead loss with no major damages such as holes or tears. The piece is likely from the Eastern Santee Sioux or Chippewa Cree being a dance shirt of sorts. The piece displays beautifully. Measures 32 inches long by 22 inches from shoulder to shoulder not including the arms or fringes.
