Buy Victory Bonds Norman Rockwell Poster 1945
For your consideration is this rare, original World War II poster created by renowned illustrator Norman Rockwell circa 1945. The poster was created shortly after WWII ended to encourage the sale of Victory Bonds, the eighth and last war loan offer, which ran from October 29 to November 8, 1945. The artwork shows a soldier returning from the war to his humble brick home, where he is greeted by delighted family, friends, and neighbors. A girl with a bow in her hair sneaks a look quietly from behind the corner. Every face is expressive and has a story to tell except the soldier, whose face we don’t see. This painting was titled Homecoming G.I. and was used as the cover artwork for the May 26, 1945 issue of The Saturday Evening Post and has a caption printed in the lower left hand corner that reads “From The Saturday Evening Post Cover By Norman Rockwell”. The top reads, "Hasten the Homecoming" in white lettering against a blue background, while the bottom reads, "Buy Victory Bonds" in white lettering against a red background. The poster shows good condition overall with wear and crease lines present from its age and use over the years. Slight tears are present but do not damage the integrity of the poster. The poster shows slight toning from age but displays vivid and bright colors. It measures 28 5/8" L x 20" W.
