Born of peasant stock in 270 A.D., Maximinus rose in prominence through military victories. Between 305 and 308 A.D., he was Caesar under Galerius. And between 308 and 310 A.D. he was Augustus in the east, but in competition with Licinius I. While details of his death are sketchy, it came on the heels of his defeat by Licinius I. Maximinus II is considered to be one of the last to prosecute Christianity, which became the state religion under Constantine the Great shortly after his death. JC-30101-175
