Blackfeet Indians Of Glacier National Park
This lot has two (2) items. First is a portfolio collection of 24 prints by Winold Reiss titled, "Blackfeet Indians of Glacier National Park". "This unusual portfolio contains faithful, full-color reproductions of 24 famous Blackfeet Indian paintings by Winold Reiss, who worked extensively with the Blackfeet Indians in the early 1900's, and secondly is included an authentic account of the Blackfeet tribe written by Frank Bird Linderman titled, "Out Of The North".
In all, Reiss made more than 250 original paintings of Native Americans, mostly of the Blackfeet. In later years, his artwork was used on Great Northern Railway calendars. These prints have vibrant colors and amazing details that enhance the physical attributes of each person and their clothing, and "offer an authentic record of how they looked and dressed".
The prints are in very good condition. Each print measures 9"W x 12"L.

Also included in this lot is "Out Of The North, A Brief Historical Sketch Of The Blackfeet Indian Tribe" by Frank Bird Linderman (published and copyrighted by Great Northern Railway Co. 1947). He was a Montana writer, politician, Native American ally and ethnographer. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, he went West as a young man and became enamored of life on the Montana frontier. While working as a trapper for several years, he lived with the Salish and Blackfeet tribes, learning their cultures. He later became an advocate for them and for other northern Plains Indians. He wrote about their cultures and worked to help them survive pressure from European Americans. For instance, he supported establishment of the Rocky Boy Indian Reservation in 1916 in Montana for landless Ojibwe (Chippewa) and Cree, and continued as an advocate for Native Americans to his death. This booklet is an authentic account of the Native American Blackfeet (Blackfoot) people.
