The lot features an exceptional set of fully top beaded moccasins from the Blackfeet American Indians of Northern Montana and dating to the 19th Century. The set shows an Indian tanned hide construction with Indian tanned supple parfleche soles having a nice original patina. The entire set is all sinew sewn, a true attribute to the true early age of this circa 1880 set. The top of the set shows an excellent traditional geometric beaded pattern with all period correct 19th Century glass trade petit seed beads having a chalk white background with greasy yellow, cobalt, black, semi-transparent rose, and semi-transparent light blue. The ankle shows a green old trade wool fancy border with a high calico green old trade clothe covering having the original Indian tanned hide ties. The set also has a long Indian tanned hide forked tongue. Provenance: From the private family collection of Sarah Alling of Helena, Montana. The family collection of Sarah Alling, a 5th Generation Montanan, began in the 19th Century and has grown since. Along with being an avid collector herself, Sarah co-founded with Bruce VanLandingham Sundog Fine Art of Bozeman, Montana which was both part museum and gallery. The set is in truly excellent museum preserved quality condition with nice even patina and little to no bead loss. Each measures overall 10” L soles that are 3.75” W and the ankle is 7.5”H.
