Then he was the Assistant Chief Engineer of the Santa Fe and Grand Canyon Railway. He started in mining at the Anita Copper. He held several other mining positions. In 1908, he was in charge of designing and constructing the twenty stamp gold mill and cyanide plant for the Big Stick. His list of accomplishments are far too long to list here. The Big Stick Gold Mining Company was located in the Santa Maria District about 20 miles northwest of Date Creek - the nearest railroad stop.
