***Auction Highlight*** 1878-cc Trade Dollar $1 Graded au58+ By SEGS. Unlike the Philadelphia Mint, the Carson City facility managed a small production of Trade dollars before the denomination was abolished by Treasury Secretary John Sherman on February 22, 1878. Nevada mint officials struck 56,000 pieces in January and 41,000 examples during the first three weeks in February for a total mintage of 97,000 coins. That total stands as the lowest in the Trade dollar series, making the 1878-CC a perennially in-demand issue. This piece is as close to Mint State as one could hope to find without crossing that threshold. Wear is virtually unseen, and any softness on Liberty's head or the eagle's wingtips is a reflection of strike rather than friction. The stars, olive leaves, feathers, and talons are notably well-struck. Delicately toned lilac-gray surfaces display minimal abrasions with glints of original luster in the recesses. A Corey's Pick, Bid to Win, Don't let it get Away, you might not find its equal Coin. I give this coin my highest recommendation
