Produced without makers marks, the barrel is equipped with a shallow notch rear sight, decorated with raised scroll designs on the rear half and secured with a pair of 1 3/4 inch wide silver bands. The lock is equipped with a serrated frizzen and a round ball trigger with a carved bone inlay around the border and a leather pad stuffed with hair nailed to the stock to the rear, positioned to protect the web and index finger of the shooting hand from the exposed lock hardware during operation, both from being pinched during cocking or bludgeoned during discharge. Smooth stock, with additional bone border inlays around the reverse screws, topstrap, and trigger, and a round silver pommel cap with lanyard ring. Provenance: The William Ashby Collection

Condition:
Good with a mixed gray and brown patina on the steel along with some pitting on and around the flashpan and scattered handling marks. A screw is absent from the wrist and tang. The stock is fine with some chipping around the lockplate, scattered cracks and dents. Some cracking and lost stitching is present on the pad with the stuffing exposed at the top. The silver is very good with a deep aged patina and mild dents. Mechanically fine.
