Antique Majolica Tobacco Jar
Item/Description: Antique majolica figural humidor, or tobacco jar, designed in the shape of a young boy's head, which was a popular collectible from the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and was primarily manufactured in continental Europe. The design features the boy with a rounded face, prominent rosy cheeks, and wide eyes, wearing what appears to be a cream or beige-colored cap with light blue stripes, and a bright red bow tie at his neck. The piece is made of glazed ceramic with hand-painted details, and its function as a humidor meant the lid had an unglazed portion intended to hold a damp sponge to keep tobacco fresh.
