Antique Engraved Special Order Winchester Deluxe Model 1894 Takedown Lever Action Rifle with Factory Letter

Manufactured in 1897. The Model 1894 rifle features a special order deluxe checkered wood with pistol grip stock with a shotgun buttplate. The receiver is engraved (appears factory but does not letter), with round panel of a running deer on the left side and standing deer on the right with a scallop border in the factory pattern. The panels are flanked by floral scroll and punch dot engraving with a wavy scallop line and dot border. The sides of the forend cap are engraved with a light scroll design. The top barrel flat is marked with the two line address and there is light scroll engraving on the upper breech end flats with "30 W.C.F." on the top flat at the breech in a scalloped border panel. The barrel is equipped with a folding combination globe front sight and a three leaf sporting rear sight. Blue finish with casehardened hammer and lever, and mounted with a nicely figured checkered walnut forearm and pistol grip stock with a hard rubber Winchester grip cap and checkered hard rubber Winchester shotgun buttplate. The accompanying factory letter verifies the takedown rifle configuration, caliber, octagon barrel, plain trigger, oil finished checkered pistol grip stock, 1/2 magazine, hard rubber shotgun butt, and that it was received and shipped out of the warehouse on July 6, 1897.

Fine. The rifle retains 40% blue finish with the majority of the finish lose on the receiver, which has areas of smooth gray patina. There is some minor edge wear on the barrel. The hammer and lever show strong original case colors mixed with a smooth mottled gray patina. The wood is fine with a small sliver absent from the lower left front of the wrist and a small chip on the opposite. Overall there are some minor dents, dings and scratches and crisp checkering. The engraving and markings are clear. The action is excellent. One will have to draw their own conclusion on this fine Model 1894.
