Antique Derringer Style English Single Shot Percussion Pocket Pistol, NVSN, .40 cal., 4.5'' octagonal barrel has a pin front sight, two platinum bands at engraved breech, and marked ''London'' on top flat, notch rear sight on engraved top tang; engraved serpentine lockplate and matching hammer; engraved German-silver furniture includes loop trigger guard with pineapple front tang, round buttplate having a steel door opening to a trap for spare parts, vacant oval nameplate at upper stock wrist, two oval barrel key escutcheons, nosecap; varnished European walnut halfstock checkered at grips sides. Originally equipped with a captive ''stirrup'' ramrod below the bottom barrel rib and a ferrule to retain it (both now missing), now fitted with a plain rod. Mfg'd ca. 1840s-60s, the steel parts likely with a browned finish. Condition is good+, the barrel with a smooth brownish patina, the lock, hammer, nipple and bolster with dark brown rusting (should clean off), the German silver with light toning. Stock is basically solid with good checkering, scattered dings, scrapes, minor losses, a 1.5'' crack emanating from the left sideplate screw, and much original varnish. Action is tight; bore shows deep erosion halfway to muzzle and fair rifling. Est.: $250-$400. (Antique)
