For your consideration is this antique European Davos style wooden sledge. The classic Davos Sledge has its origins in Davos, a Swiss resort community. In the 19th Century some Swiss carpenters worked on developing further the Norwegian sledge. These were first called "sledges" in Davos in 1883. That was the year of the first historic toboggan race in Davos. Racers piloted Davos sledges down snow-covered streets from Davos-Wolfgang into Klosters--that's 5.6 miles! Like traditional Davos sledges, this sledge is of wood construction with an iron rod pull-bar joining the two runners, providing stability. Unlike traditional Davos sledges, this sledge has one thick plank of wood in the center instead of 3 wood slats; and it measures 53 inches(134 cm) long, whereas the traditional size is 80-130 centimeters long. This sledge shows excellent craftsmanship and is still in very good condition, considering its early to mid-century age. Missing on this sledge is the iron attached to the runners. The sledge measures 53" x 18.5".
