Ace Powell (Montana 1912-1978) Original Oil Rider
This is an original work of art by renowned Montana artist Ace Powell. This work is of a nice large size showing a single rider, possibly Ace Powell himself, looking out over a meadow with rolling clouds dancing through a bright blue sky. Ace Powell (American 1912-1978) was a famous Montana painter, sculptor and etcher who focused on the American Indians, cowboys, horses and wildlife of our great Big Sky state. His artwork was influenced by fellow Montana artist, Charles M. Russell. Ace was married to Nancy McLaughlin-Powell and father to Dave Powell. The piece is hand signed in the lower left corner “POWELL” with his iconic playing card. This truly a wonderful original work of art oil on stretched canvas and a period correct gilt wood frame. Similar Ace Powell original oil’s have sold for $8,000 for Night Riders at the 2016 Russell Auction, $16,000 in 2009, and $7,500 for a single rider in the rain in 2018 at the Russell Auction. The visible artwork measures 11 1/2" x 7 3/4" and the frame measures 13" x 9 1/4".
