Joseph Nikolaus Lang was an Austrian Medalist and Mint Engraver in Vienna; born at Innsbruck in 1776 and died at Vienna 20 May 1835. He was a son and pupil of Thomas Lang and was first employed at the mint of Hall in Tyrol, then as Assistant Engraver at the Vienna mint 1815-1827. On January 30, 1828 he was promoted to the post of Director of the Vienna "Graveurakademie" and remained in oflice until his death.
