c1901-1916-The Hunter (No city or state name) was a saloon, with many owners including George A. Hall, Joseph Hall, James W. Clark, and E.C. Thorn. Obverse: The Hunter/ 12 1/2/ Cents. Reverse: no official markings; there is a scratched in name of "Nome, Alaska." Rare, aluminum, round, 25mm. It is speculated that these tokens were possibly provided by the makers of Hunter brand Whiskey, and may possibly have been used at the Hunter in Douglas. (from Alaska and Yukon Tokens, Ronald J. Benice, 3rd Ed.) Nome is located on the southern Seward peninsula. Gold was discovered in 1898, and by 1899 the population was over 10,000. It is the end point of the famous 1000 mile Iditarod Sled Dog race. HKA#64386
