A tsuishu lacquer netsuke of a Shishi.
Early 19th century. Seated on a cushion and resting its front paws on a mokugyo, its adornments in gold and black lacquer include a cap secured by a ribbon that attaches under the chin and tasseled blanket that fits over its back. The mokugyo is covered with an asanoha pattern while the underside of the cushion bears a diaper pattern. One of the himotoshi is countersunk in a large area reserved for the cord knot.
