The reverse displays a heraldic eagle with a shield, an olive branch in the right talon and arrows in the left, representing peace and readiness for defense. A banner bearing the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM flows from the eagle's beak. Thirteen stars appear above the eagle, symbolizing the original colonies.
