Excellent set of 19th-century Navajo buffalo rawhide rattles from the ex-Christie's November 2000 Auction and from the private ex-museum and fine Native American collection in Eastern Montana. The set exhibits a classic Navajo rawhide rattle pattern documented in the 1800's with flaired rectanular form comprised of rawhide parfleche of the buffalo / bison sewn with sinew rawhide lacing and decorated with stippled zig-zag and straight lines as well as embossed with other geometric motifs. The rattles have wood handles wrapped in hide with buffalo / bison fur drops attached. This was sold in the November 2000 Christie's "American Indian Art & Western Memorabilia With Arms & Armour Auction. Provenance: Ex-Chistie's, ex-private museum and fine Native American collection from Eastern Montana. Largest measures 8.5-inches long without the buffalo drops, 13-inches long with by 2.5-inches by 2-inches.
