19th C. Ottoman North Africa Flintlock Pistol
The lot features a North African Ottoman Empire Flintlock Pistol dating from circa 1830-1860’s. The pistol was likely converted from a Flintlock Rifle and shows a hardwood stock with scrimshaw hand engraved bone inlays along with silver like metal studs inlayed in a fantastic design. The stock shows a nice pistol grip with rounded pommel end with dimensional carving. The barrel is overall 10 7/8 inches long including the mounting bracket in a heavy forged iron with flourish work. The flintlock mechanism is a large size with detailed hand worked moldings and flourishment’s. The trigger guard has a nice cut finish. Typical of North African Ottoman Empire firearms the piece shows well used condition. The barrel is floating, the grip was repaired, and the piece shows other cracking and wear. The flint screw moves, the hammer has a strong spring and pulls back, but doesn’t appear to lock, the trigger moves freely. End of the barrel has been hammered crudely. Overall the firearm measures is 18”L. Antique black powder firearm, requires NO FFL or NICS Background check.
