1960s Souvenir Lead Ingots From East Helena
For your consideration is a collection of 1960s lead ingot souvenirs that came from the ASARCO Smelter in East Helena. In 1898, the American Smelting and Refining Company (ASARCO) purchased the 160 acre site near East Helena and for over a century, processed 70,000 tons of lead bullion a year that would provide a livelihood for thousands of families. The stacks ceased operations in 2001, and were finally demolished in 2009, but these lead ingot souvenirs live on. In total there are 10 ingots all stamped with "East Helena ASARCO" with the measurements of 1 3/4" L x 1" W x 2/8" D and each ingot weighing about 37 grams.
