1930s JB Hirsch Librarian Bookends on Marble
Item/Description: JB Hirsch Co. "The Librarian" bookends are a classic set of Art Deco collectibles from the 1930s. These bookends were primarily made of French brozne or spelter with a bronze or painted finish and were mounted on a polished marble base. A defining characteristic is the use of celluloid, or ivorine, for the figure's head and sometimes hands, a material chosen to mimic the expensive ivory used in high-end French originals and which was a popular, modern material at the time.

The J.B. Hirsch Company, founded in New York in 1907, was well-known for producing collectible, Art Deco-style bookends and other bronze-clad items, with the company operating through various iterations for many decades. Signed JBH Co. on side of the stool.
