Featured in this lot we have a Egyptian celluloid scarab beaded purse originating from the 1930's. In 1922 British archaeologist Howard Carter discovered of King Tutankhamun's tomb in the Valley of the Kings in Egypt. The wealth, beauty and artistry he uncovered astounded the world. Everything from fashion to architecture embraced this new and wonderful 3000 year old imagery. This wonderful beaded purse displays a wonderfully carved celluloid clasp showing elephants with a figure sitting crossed legged in the center on either side. The bag features the beaded design of a scarab beetle in flight on a black background. The bag displays a variety of color beads including light blue, orange, gold, burnt red, light and dark green, and black. The interior of the purse shows a maroon cloth lining. The purse shows good condition overall with some wear and damage on the interior lining. The bag measures 7 1/2" wide by 14 1/2" tall including the carry strap.
