1864 Presidential Election Lincoln & Johnson Campaign Broadside: “The Defenders of Our Union”
1864 Presidential Election Campaign Patriotic Lithograph Broadside/Poster, Abraham Lincoln & Andrew Johnson, titled: “The Defenders of Our Union,” Published by Kimmel & Fosters, N.Y., Extremely Fine.
This vivid striking 1864 Campaign Poster measures a large 19" x 24" and is virtually the Only Obtainable type and design issued from the fall of 1864. That historic presidential election campaign produced very little prominent political memorabilia, save for some smaller ephemera such as booklets, and then there is this remarkable Broadside/Poster! Impressive and in choice condition with some slight age along the very edges and a small chip from the lower right extreme margin edge. Its overall bold and eye-catching design provides terrific display presence. This late Civil War period patriotic Lithograph is a composite of five ovals which are depicting George Washington, Abe Lincoln, Andrew Johnson, the Union Navy's top Admirals and the Army's top Generals. Military officers shown include Generals Grant, Sherman, Sheridan, plus Navy Admirals Porter, Faragut (sic) and Dahlgreen (sic). A similar Campaign Poster sold for $1,837.50 in EAHA’s June 6, 2006 Sale Lot 2058, while another for $1,347 in February 6, 2007 lot 2153. One of the best overall "values" in Lincoln political collectibles.
