4 1/2" by 8 1/2". Sales by E. H. Hall by order of W. Freeman U.S.M. Bark James Smith and appurtenances to Fairbanks, Adams & Co for $3,325.00. Watson Freeman is primarily remembered for his controversial and aggressive enforcement of the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850 in Boston, a city that was a major center for the abolitionist movement. Freeman was widely despised by local abolitionists. One notable instance involved a local African American tailor, Henry Weeden, who famously refused to repair Freeman’s coat, writing back that "principle first, money afterwards" and that he would not serve a man who volunteered to arrest fugitive slaves.
