1836<PS$1> Name on Base, Judd-60 Original, Pollock-65, R.1, PR50 PCGS. Die Alignment IV. Plain Edge. Silver. All Die Alignment II through IV coins were struck in March 1837, and all these pieces are related, although their reverse orientation may be noticeably different. These pieces represent a relatively small portion of the 600 coins issued in March 1837. These coins all started out in Die Alignment II, but at some time during the coining process the hammer die accidentally rotated, eventually producing an entire series of intermediate alignment coins, ending up in Die Alignment IV configuration. This piece is one of those final coins as the eagle is flying level with Liberty's head opposite the right side of the F in OF. These 1837 coins are usually seen in circulated grades and with the same frequency as the Issue of 1836. This is a mostly brilliant coin with a few specks of color in the field below ATES OF, and a shallow scratch above and another, shorter one below the star above the second L in DOLLAR.
