1795/1795<50C> Doubled Date, 2 Leaves. O-112, R.4. VF20 NGC. All four digits are clearly recut south, the date initially placed so low that the original digits reach the dentils. The blundered date of this obverse is one of the most visible and desirable date recuttings in American numismatics, rivaling such pieces as the 1844-O Doubled Date half dollar and the 1894 Doubled Date Indian cent. This is an intermediate die state. Overton's die crack "from milling downward between ER, touching left base of R" is bold. In lighter form, the crack continues in a southwest direction to the top of Liberty's forecurl. Liberty shows light clash marks about her head, created during the previous O-111 marriage. In LIBERTY, BE are clearly recut, indicating this example was struck before die lapping removed this characteristic as well as the clash marks. A pleasing dove-gray representative; the wear is even and no heavy marks are encountered. A couple small ticks inside star 6 will serve to identify the pedigree of this specimen. In addition to these, the reverse has a few miniscule rim nicks.
Ex: "Woody" Blevins (12/31/1984). Envelope Included.
