Item/Description: Framed harbor scene engraving. After Richard Paton (English 1717-1791), engraving dated 1771 by Pierre-Charles Canot, RA (French, 1710-1777), "The burning of the Prudent and taking of the Bienfaisant in Louisbourg Harbour, Cape Breton, 1758". This historically important engraving shows the capture of Louisbourg by Admiral Bascawen, supported by General Amherst with his ground troops. Here we see the Prudent ablaze in Louisbourg harbor after Capt. Laforey and Balfour found her aground and were obliged to burn her. This historical event was the beginning of the Seven Years' War.
