“WASHINGTON IN GLORY. - AMERICA IN TEARS.” Historic Liverpool Creamware Pitcher Made Circa 1805
c. 1805 Federal Period, Historic Liverpool Creamware Pitcher, “WASHINGTON IN GLORY. - AMERICA IN TEARS.” with a Colorful American 16-Star Flag Three Masted Sailing Ship Transfer, Very Fine.
This colorful Historic Liverpool Creamware Pitcher measures 9.75” tall x 5” at its base. This decorative Pitcher has some internal crack lines about its bottom portion and base and has some light tone to the glaze, yet is still a great example and worthy of display. There are Three Transfers displayed:

1. One side has “WASHINGTON IN GLORY. - AMERICA IN TEARS.” being bold, vivid black and quite magnificent in eye appeal, as made. Listed as W.44 on page 207 in Arman’s “Anglo-American Ceramics Part I”.

2. Opposite is a highly colorful Large 16-Star American Flag flown on a Three-Masted Sailing Ship which is under full sail. This specific design is NOT SHOWN in ARMAN, although similar to the Ship Illustration listed as S.48 on page 173 in Arman, but without the printed text below. The ocean water, American flag and ship’s hull are in rich original red, blue, black, green and yellow colors.

3. The transfer located under the spout is listed as W.56 on page 210 in Arman, reading: “A MAN without example / A PATRIOT without reproach” in reference to the beloved late President George Washington.
