Year of Shirut Leumi 1947 - large photo in memory of the soldiers killed defending Kibbutz Maanit in the War of Independence. The photograph shows 13 Jewish soldiers inside a Star of David and a sword with an olive branch. At the bottom an inscription reads 'National Service Year 1948' . Overall in good condition: sllighty yellow. * Kibbutz Maanit in the War of Independence - upon the outbreak of the riots in December 1947, Kibbutz Maanit was the Jewish spot closest to the border in the northern Sharon region. Ma'anit is located at the foot of the hills of Samaria and is situated at the top of a hill. The kibbutz was attacked many times during the War of Independence, first by hundreds of gang members from surrounding villages in the Wadi Ara region and after the invasion of the Arab armies, the Kibbutwas also attacked by the Iraqi army, with the help of the locals. Heavy fighting took place around the Kibbutz and many homes were destroyed. On July 18, 1948, the day before the second ceasefire,
there was an exceptionally fierce battle. Among the participants were the fighters of the Alexandroni Brigade, members of Kibbutz Maanit and friends from nearby communities. The battle took place under heavy bombardment, and the enemy advanced to the fence of the kibbutz's fence and was stopped, with the help of the Alexandroni fighters who were rushed to the area.
