Winchester Model 1895 Lever Action Sporting Rifle
Manufactured in 1905, this was the first non-detachable box magazine rifle made by Winchester. The top of the barrel at the breech is marked "38-72 W.C.F.", the left side of the receiver is marked with the two line address/patent dates. The upper tang is marked "MODEL 1895 / -WINCHESTER- / TRADE MARK" and the serial number appears on the lower tang behind the lever latch. The barrel is equipped with a dovetailed brass blade front sight and an adjustable rear sporting sight. Blue finish with casehardened hammer and crescent buttplate, and mounted with a smooth Schnabel forearm with ebony forend insert and straight grip stock.

Condition: Very fine. The barrel retains 90% of the original blue finish with areas thinning to a smooth brown. The receiver retains 70% original blue finish with some smooth brown and gray patina and high edge wear. The magazine retains 80% original blue finish with normal wear from cycling the action for many years. The lever shows strong original blue with the smooth mottled brown patina. The buttplate has a smooth brownish gray patina. The wood is also very fine. With the exception of a 2 1/2" scratch on the lower right side of the stock, there are a couple of scratches on the toe and overall a few minor dings and handling marks, mainly on the stock. The markings are crisp and clear. The action is excellent.
