This is a very nice example of a Winchester Model 1886 Take-Down Rifle that was manufactured in 1908. The left side of the barrel ahead of the rear sight is marked with the two line address/patent dates, the left side at the rear sight is marked with the nickel steel/smokeless powder marking and "33 W.C.F." at the breech. The top of the receiver and barrel at the breech are stamped with the Winchester oval proof. The upper tang is marked with the three line maker, model trade mark information and the lower tang is marked with the two line, two patent dates (1884 and 1885) and serial number. Lyman ramped blade front sight with ivory bead and adjustable semi buck horn sporting rear sight. Half magazine tube with patent date marked takedown lever, blue finish with casehardened lever and hammer, and mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with steel end cap and checkered hard rubber Winchester buttplate.
BBL: 24 inch round
Stock: walnut
Gauge: 33 WCF
Finish: blue
Grips:
Serial Number: 148063
Condition: Very fine. The rifle retains 90% of the original blue finish on the barrel and receiver. Wear is concentrated primarily on the forend cap and the takedown ring which have faded to a smooth mottled gray patina. The bottom of the receiver is thinning and there is some high edge wear on the receiver. The lever and hammer show original case colors in protected areas with the balance having a smooth mottled gray patina. The loading gate retains 50% of the thinning original niter blue finish. The stock and forearm are both very fine, with most of the original varnish and only some minor handling marks and dings. The markings are crisp and clear. The action is excellent. This is a very fine example of a Model 1886 Take-Down Rifle.
